How to Press Your DTF Transfers

How to Press Your DTF Transfers

What You'll Need

  • Heat press machine
  • DTF transfer print
  • Garment (cotton, polyester, or blend)
  • Parchment or silicone sheet (optional but recommended)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Pre-press your garment — Press for 2–3 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. This ensures a flat, even surface.
  2. Position your transfer — Place the DTF print face-down onto the garment in your desired position.
  3. Set your heat press — Use these settings as a starting point:
    • Temperature: 160–170°C (320–338°F)
    • Pressure: Medium-firm
    • Time: 10–15 seconds
  4. Press — Lower the heat press and apply firm, even pressure for the full duration.
  5. Peel — Lift the press and peel the film while hot (hot peel). If your transfers are cold-peel, wait 10–15 seconds before peeling.
  6. Re-press (optional) — Place a parchment sheet over the print and press again for 5 seconds to improve durability and finish.
  7. Done! — Allow the garment to cool before wearing or folding.

Tips for Best Results

  • Always test on a scrap piece of fabric first.
  • Avoid steam when pre-pressing.
  • Wash inside-out on a cool cycle to extend print life.
  • Settings may vary slightly depending on your heat press brand and transfer supplier.
